Toasts for Today

Inside St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.
Saint Patrick was a gentleman,
Who through strategy and stealth,
Drove all the snakes from Ireland,
Here’s a toasting to his health.
But not too many toastings
Lest you lose yourself and then
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see all those snakes again.

'Sláinte chuig na fir, agus go mairfidh na mná go deo.'
Health to the men, and may the women live forever!

'Faol saol agat, gob fliuch, agus bás in Éirinn.'
Long life to you, a wet mouth, and death in Ireland.

'Beannachtam na Feile Padraig!'
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  1. Hmmm... "Health to the men and may the women live forever." I sure hope the women who live forever live in good health.

  2. A wet mouth? Is dry mouth a recurring problem in Ireland? There's medication for that.

  3. Mitch and Ahab--

You know, you have to have a pint or two before these things make sense. :)
