Ellen Addresses Her Haters

...and comes out to those who mayn't have known.  :)  The comments that she reads at the end really warm my heart.

Hurray for Ellen and JCP!

Yesterday marked one year of Vain Minutia.  I had set up a template ages previously, but didn't start posting until a year ago.  I have kept up with it for approximately eleven and a half months longer than I thought I would.  Thanks to all who stop by!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this. I don't get to see Ellen anymore here in Spain, have always loved her, and now love her even more. AND... whenever I DO get back to the USA for a visit, I will shop at JCPenney!

    1. You're welcome! Alas, the US drags behind your gorgeous Spain, but things like this gladden my heart. Ellen has been a great ambassador.

You know, a great friend of mine who is gay also works at JCP. I wonder if groups like this think that he should be fired. Either way, it matters not. The Ellenites have spoken!

  2. I cried at the end of this. What a powerful speech. Ellen is amazing, and I'm so glad JCP is standing behind their decision. I haven't heard much about this One Million Moms organization, but it makes me sad that there are mothers out there who are teaching their children intolerance.

    1. I did too, D.B., and I've watched it several times because I find it so inspirational. I love that she addressed this issue with her usual humor, charm, and intelligence.

One Million Moms is part of a parent organization called the American Family Association. There is also a branch called One Million Dads, and there aren't really a million of those guys, either.

The AFA tries to pull stunts like this a lot, and they are all just as futile. At the moment, I believe they are protesting Macy's for having an advert that includes a picture of two grooms together, and they are trying to get all sponsors to pull their advertising dollars from...wait for it...Modern Family. Yes, you read that correctly...I typed the title of the MASSIVELY popular series Modern Family. Companies who do sponsor the show probably wish that sucker was two hours long.

As you say, it is sad that these people are passing their fears to their children. The good news is, while I'm sure they ban things like Modern Family, Glee, Ellen, etc. from their homes, they can't hide all of the nice friends, neighbors, teachers, and indeed JCP employees in the world who will show their kids the truth, simply by their kindness and...well, just normalcy.

The tide is changing. Genuine love has millions of supporters. Real millions, not fake millions. :)

  3. This gave me goosebumps. Thank you for posting! And a big hearty AMEN to Ellen's tradional values. If only we all would stand up for those values together.

    1. Amen to your amen, and I agree whole-heartedly! I think the group standing together is getting bigger.
